A new European budget fit for our ambitions

A driving force behind European action

Increased funding for state-of-the-art drones delivering essential products to hard-to-reach populations

Avatar: Samuel González Samuel González

The project proposes to implement a delivery system with drones in rural areas of difficult access, starting with Truchillas as a pioneer town, a mountain town in the province of León with an aging population, without a pharmacy or nearby services, and with access problems in winter. The aim is to ensure the shipment of medicines, commodities or administrative documents from urban centres to these villages, quickly, safely and sustainably. The idea is to use electric drones to connect isolated areas, reducing waiting times and polluting emissions. In addition, we want to demonstrate that this technology can be useful and replicable in other depopulated rural areas of Spain and Europe. The project is aligned with the European Union's priorities in innovation, digitalisation, sustainability and territorial cohesion. European funding is requested to cover part of the cost of drones, navigation software, staff training and commissioning of the service. The social, environmental and technological impact would be very positive, helping to improve the quality of life in rural areas. Truchillas will be the starting point, but the model could easily be extended to other similar locations.
